Getting started
Create your vault in the web app at app.onlywallet.in. Android and iPhone apps are coming soon and use the same account.
Sign in with GoogleYour Google account identifies your vault and syncs it across devices. It never unlocks it.
- Open app.onlywallet.in in your browser.
- Read the intro cards and tap "Get started".
- Tap "Continue with Google" and pick your Google account.
- If you see "Could not sign in", check your connection and try again.
- Use the same Google account on every device to reach the same vault.
Create your master passwordThe one password that encrypts your vault. Nobody can reset it for you.
- Type a master password of at least 10 characters.
- Watch the strength meter. A password rated Weak is not accepted.
- Type it again in the confirm box.
- Wait a few seconds while the app shows "Securing your vault". Deriving your key takes a moment on purpose.
- A passphrase of four or five unrelated words is easier to remember and harder to guess than a short complex password.
- Common words such as cricket, india or a city name lower the score.
Save your 24-word recovery phraseThe only way back into your vault if you forget your master password.
- Write the 24 words on paper, in order, exactly as shown.
- Do not screenshot them or store them in notes, email or cloud storage.
- Tap "I've saved it".
- Type the three words the app asks for ("Word #n") from your written copy to confirm.
- The phrase is shown once and never stored. Keep the paper somewhere safe at home.
- Losing both the master password and the phrase means the vault cannot be opened by anyone, including OnlyWallet.
Connect Google DriveStore encrypted copies of your files in your own Drive.
- During setup, tap "Connect Google Drive", or tap "Skip for now" and connect later.
- Approve access in the Google window. OnlyWallet asks only for files it creates itself.
- Tap "Open my vault".
- To connect later, open Settings, then Google Drive, or tap the Drive card on Home.
- Files go into an "OnlyWallet Vault" folder, encrypted, with names that reveal nothing.
- Without Drive you can still save every detail. Only attachments need it.
Unlock and lock
Your vault key lives in memory only while the vault is unlocked. Locking wipes it.
Unlock your vaultOpen the vault with your master password.
- Open OnlyWallet. You see "Welcome back" with your account email.
- Type your master password and unlock.
- Wait a moment while the key is derived, then Home opens.
- After 5 wrong passwords in a row the screen makes you wait before trying again, and the wait grows each time.
Lock nowClear the key from memory straight away.
- Tap the lock icon on Home, or open Settings and tap "Lock now".
- The vault locks and the unlock screen opens.
- Locking also clears copied secrets from the clipboard and removes temporary decrypted files.
Change auto-lockChoose how soon the vault locks by itself.
- Open Settings and tap "Auto-lock".
- Choose Immediately, After 1 minute, After 5 minutes or After 15 minutes.
- The vault also locks when the app sits idle on screen for that long without a touch or key press.
Turn on fingerprint or face unlockUnlock with biometrics on Android and iPhone.
- Open Settings and switch on "Biometric unlock".
- Enter your master password to confirm.
- Next time, the fingerprint or face prompt appears as soon as the unlock screen opens.
- Not available in the web app, where it shows "Not available on this device".
- Re-enrolling fingerprints or faces turns it off. Switch it on again with your password.
Add and organise items
Every document, card, policy and login is an item built from a template, with encrypted fields.
Add an itemPick a template and fill in the details.
- Tap "Add item" on Home or in the Vault tab.
- In "Add to your vault", pick a category, then a template such as Aadhaar, Passport or Health insurance.
- Fill in the fields. Required fields are marked.
- Choose who it belongs to and, if you use family or group spaces, where it is saved.
- Tap "Save to vault".
- Fields such as document numbers, PINs and CVVs are always encrypted.
- Use the "Custom item" template for anything without its own template, and add your own fields.
Mark a title privateHide a revealing title from the server.
- In the add or edit form, switch on "Mark title private".
- Save. The title is encrypted, and server-side lists show only the category.
- Reminders for a private item mention only its category.
Attach a file or photoKeep the scan or PDF with the item.
- Open the item and go to Attachments, or attach while creating it.
- Choose "Choose a file", "Choose a photo" or "Take a photo".
- The file is encrypted on your device and uploaded to your Google Drive.
- Each file can be up to 25 MB.
- Exporting a decrypted copy shows a warning, because that copy leaves your vault unencrypted.
Archive or move an itemKeep old items out of the way, or move them to a shared space.
- Open the item and open its menu.
- Choose Archive to stop its reminders and payment cycles, or "Move to" to move it to another space.
- Moving re-encrypts the item, its files and its payment history for the new space.
Scan and upload documents
Documents are read on your device. Nothing is sent to a server for reading.
Upload a documentCreate an item from a PDF or photo you already have.
- Tap "Upload document" on Home, or the Vault button, then "Scan or upload document".
- Choose a PDF or image. Up to 8 pages are read.
- OnlyWallet opens the form for the type it recognised, or asks "What is this document?".
- In "Check what we found", confirm each field, or pick the right value when it is unsure.
- Check every field and save.
- If you see "This image is hard to read", choose a clearer image or continue anyway.
- Recognised types include PAN, Aadhaar, driving licence, passport, RC, insurance policies and 10th and 12th marksheets.
Scan with the cameraScan a paper document with edge detection.
- Tap "Scan document".
- Point the camera at the document and capture each page.
- Confirm the fields and save. The scan is attached when Drive is connected.
Fill a form from a documentFill empty fields of an item from a file.
- In the add or edit form, tap "Fill from document".
- Pick the file and review "Check what we found".
- Only empty fields are filled. Values you typed are never replaced.
